**CLASS** Freemotion Fantasy Birds - Sheena Norquay, Sunday 23rd June

Freemotion Fantasy Birds - with Sheena Norquay
When: Sunday 23rd June 2019 10am - 5pm
Ability: Intermediate / Advanced level
Scottish Textile Artist Sheen Norquay is one of the most experienced quilting teachers in the UK and we are so pleased she has agreed to come to teach at our Studio in Yorkshire.  We have exhibited with Sheena at Festival of Quilts for the past few years and not only is her work incredible, she has a brilliant way of explaining her techniques and inspirations.
These workshops have been taught all around the World and we expect a high demand so book soon to avoid disappointment!  You could make a weekend of it and book onto the class on Saturday 22nd June as well.

"This workshop is based on my quilt FANTASY FLOCK. Students will be given a menu of heads, bodies and tails from which to create the outline of a fantasy bird. I will demonstrate how to draw a simple bird outline and how to transfer the drawing on to fabric. After talking about threads and waddings, I will demonstrate how to quilt feathers for the body and tail from a menu of ideas for quilted  feathers. Students can choose simple or complex patterns.  The bird will be quilted on to a layer of wadding using one or more threads which contrast in colour with the fabric. After trimming the wadding around the bird and tacking the top to the main layer of wadding and backing, the background around the bird will be free motion quilted with a thread which is either the same as the background or slightly lighter or darker. Again I will show ideas for quilting the background. You can bind your wall hanging at home.  By the end of the workshop we should have a fantasy flock!"
