My Sailor Collar block on the Splendid Sampler 2

I am very happy to share my block design with you all for the Splendid Sampler 2 - Sailor Collar on page 42 in the book.

This is the first time I have been part of a worldwide sew-along and it has been a really interesting journey so far.  I feel more confident in different quilting skills and watching my quilt grow is exciting. I also love watching everyone else's projects develop, and seeing how each person can put their unique spin on each block.

The block represents a sailor collar and that is because I am working on a quilt project using the remnants of one that belonged to my Grandpa Stanley when he served in the Navy in World War II.  I am piecing it together with other special fabrics and working on it is a way of connecting with him, even though he is not alive anymore.

I have been sewing along with Liberty Cottons on their new Lasenby base which is a good weight for piecing a quilt.

I have a full video tutorial telling you lots more and how to sew the block here:

I would also really love for you to share your versions with me on Instagram @jennismithsews and Jenni Smith Sews on Facebook.

Thanks,

Jenni

Hi Jenni, I’ve missed your video sew-alongs; but I’ve been making some progress, which is thankful for what I learned from you. I love your Sailor block, and looking forward to enjoy making it. My dad was in WWII, injured in Sicily, and spent a year in British Hospital before he came home. My Dad was born in Edinburgh, and mother in England.

    Thankyou,
    Patricia

Jenni I love your block and that you have pieces of your grandfather’s uniform, how amazing is that. Your memory quilt is going to be incredible. thank you for sharing it in our book!
