About

The Hepworth Apron is perfect for all creative endeavours – in the studio, garden or kitchen. Its design is functional and flattering with the option to add your own personal twist to the pockets or front band with a contrast fabric or embroidery.

Fabric

The apron hangs beautifully in washed linen. Light to medium weight denim is good for a more hard-wearing option. Cottons are also suitable.

All sizes require just 1.5 m (1.65 yds) of fabric 115 cm (44") wide.

Skills

Our pattern are designed to build the skills and confidence of our customers.  The Hepworth Apron focuses on three techniques:

  • Patch pockets
  • French seams
  • Sewing Curves

The cut is modern and flattering and does not require any major fit adjustments, so it is a good project for those new to dressmaking.

What’s in a name?

As well as sewing, one of my major passions is the History of Art.  I studied the subject for my degree at University, combined with Italian.

Sculptor and artist Barbara Hepworth was born in Yorkshire, where our studio is based. Her work is a constant source of inspiration and I grew up admiring the beautiful contours of her sculpted forms, and use of natural materials.

The apron is worn here by my very good friend Juliet Gutch who makes mobile sculptures and captures the spirit of creativity we want to celebrate.
